A Trip to Colca Canyon

Allen and I took a trip to the south Peruvian Andes visiting the romantic city of Arequipa and Colca Canyon. It was a much needed refreshment away from our dusty city of Trujillo and Allen’s busy ministry schedule.

Colca Canyon is located about a 3-4 bus ride out of Arequipa. It is more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon and known for it’s large Candor birds.

The Colca Valley is a colorful Andean valley with towns founded in Spanish Colonial times and formerly inhabited by the Collaguas and the Cabanas.

At the peak of our travels to the canyon, at 16,000 ft., we found a glacier and a ’57 Chevy. . .
